If you are getting henna work done for the first time, you may feel a bit anxious about the whole thing, but don't worry, it is completely painless. The henna paste may feel cold on your skin because it’s kept frozen until use. It will be drawn on your skin similarly to cake decorating. Afterwards, please note that it will take some time for the henna paste to dry and for the color to properly develop on your skin (see henna aftercare section). I always recommend leaving the paste on your skin for a minimum of 4-6 hours. **The longer it is left on, the darker the stain will become and the longer it will last. It will reach its peak in color in about 2-3 days and should last about 7 - 10 days with proper after care.
Follow these instructions to ensure a long lasting and dark henna stain:
1). Leave the henna paste on your skin for a minimum of four hours I sleep in mine.
2). To remove the henna paste, wipe it off with a dry paper towel. The stain will be a pumpkin orange when you first remove the paste. It will darken to a deep mahogany color in about 2 to 3 days. It should last you about one and a half to two weeks.
3). Try to avoid water on the henna’d area for about 24 hours. If that’s not possible, pat it dry. Do not rub. When bathing.. Vaseline, Aquaphor, and or Chapstick work great as barriers against the water.. therefore, protecting your henna stain.
